Dehu Road Cantonment
Dehu Road Cantonment is a military cantonment town of India situated of Pune district of the state of Maharashtra, located of the National Highway NH4, the Old Pune Mumbai Highway, lying of an altitude of 600 metres, with water flowing on both sides of the Town, which are the tributaries of Bhima, Indrayan and Pavana rivers, the climate of this region being pleasant throughout the year.
Dehu Road cantonment is amidst a number of small towns of Pune District, besides the Staff Quarters of a few Central Government establishments and Schools, new townships such as one at Revet being developed, the entire region is busy and crowded.
Dehu Road Cantonment town , although a military establishment primarily, a number of Central government departments function here, especially those of Military and Defence, with proximity to few of the well known IT parks such as Pune Hinjawadi, ICC Trade tower, Talawade, while major manufacturing units of Central Government like Ordinance Factory, Indian Armed Forces factory, operate here, besides other manufacturing units of famous automobile units such as Folkswagon, Mecedes-Benz, General Motors etc.
Dehu Road Cantonment area is also at the end of the Mumbai Pune Expressway, Katraj-Dehu Bypass Road, with heavy traffic all the time flowing around this residential town.
There are a few temples such as Maruti Mandir, Ayyappa Temple, Murugesh temple, and three Masjids including one Jama Masjid which is biggest of the area, situated around Dehu Road Cantonment area, apart from tourist’s interest spots like Dehu Road Bazaar
Dehu Road Cantonment town has diverse population, major part of it from South Indian States, covering a figure of 46,900 as per 2001 Government of India census, 53% Males and 47% females, literacy rate ranging around 74%, the count of population under 6 years of age coming to 12%.
Dehu Road Cantonment has a number of Schools with English medium, such as St. Jude High School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Sri Shivaji Vidyalaya with Marathi medium education.
