Assam Mahamaya Dham Dhubri
The Mahamaya Dham or Mahamaya Temple of Bogribari, situated about 30 km on the east side of Dubhri town, is one of the most visited temples in that part of the Assam. The temple derives its name from the great goddess Mahamaya, meaning supreme illusion. MahamayaDham is only second to Kamakhya Temple in terms of pilgrimage and tourism.
MahamayaDham is considered to be one of the greatest Shakti Peethas as Hindu pilgrims of Lower Assam visit this temple regularly for worship. It is of popular belief that the well-known goddess Mahamaya was worshipped only by the local people of Parvatjowar and not known to rest of Assam. Parvatjowar’s Zamindar considered Mahamaya to be his primary deity. The goddess was widely accepted later on and today all of lower Assam worships mother Mahamaya.
How to Reach
The Rupsi Airportlies just18 km away from the Mahamaya Temple and it is well connected to the airport by road so you can choose to hire a cab.
If you are planning to reach the temple by train then Dhubri Rail Way Station is the closest station laying just 2 kms from the temple.
The MahamyaDham is well connected by Highway No 31 and it takes only half an hour to reach the temple from Bilasipara. There is a regular frequency of ASTC buses that you can choose to travel in and also the option to hire a cab from the city if need be.

The Mahamaya Snaanghat Temple is another place of worship connected to the Mahamaya Goddess and it lies just a few kilometers from MahamayaDham. According to popular belief, it is the place where the gread goddess Mahamaya used to take bath and it is considered very sacred.

The time of Durga Puja would be the ideal time to visit the temple as it is possible to see the Mahamaya Dham at her peak. It is also advisable to visit the temple during time of January, as that is the time when a Shakti Yaga is performed by the priests of Mahamaya Snaanghat Temple.

Rules and Rituals of The Temple
The temple is known for its animal sacrifice tradition that has been prevailing for over 400 years at the time of Durga Puja. Even when many animal lovers have raised concerns against this tradition, it still happens to this day especially when a new large scale construction is about to begin.
