One of the most famous temples located in the heart of Maharashtra, Mumbai is the great SiddhivinayakGanpatiMandir. A place, where Lord Ganesha resides. The temple is located at the corner of KakasahebGadgilMarg and S.K. Bole Marg in Prabhadevi.Constructed in the year 1801 by LaxmanVithu and Deubai it was the richest buildings of that time.
The temple has a beautiful architecture with Asthavinayak carved wooden doors, gold laid roof, mandap with the Ganesha’s shrine and a statue of Lord ganesh in the middle. Other than Lord Ganesh the temple beholds Lord Hanuman as well at its periphery.
The foundation of the temple was laid on 19th November 1801 which was a Thursday and kartikShudhaChaturdashi a per the Hindu Mythology calendar.
The temple was constructed by Late Deubai who once while praying got up with this idea. It is said that she prayed and requested to Lord Ganesh that “Although she cannot have a child, but let other ladies who are childless get the pleasure of child on visiting the temple and praying to you”.And since then keeping a sight over the history it is believed as if the Lord heard and granted her prayers. and hence the place is also regarded as NavasalaPavanaraGanapati meaning the Lord answers all who humbly and genuinely request.
ShriAkkalkot Swami Samarth and Late Ramakrishna JambhekarMaharaj were blessed with Sidhi around 125yrs ago.
The divine idols were brought up by ShriJambhekar on the request of Swami Samarth. He requested to burry the idols in his courtyard and some in the ShriCholappa leaving the two idols untouched. He placed these two idols in front of the Lord god Ganesh, the great Lord was worshipped. He also said that after 21years of devotion a Mandaar tree will grow at the place inculcating a belief in people for Lord
A few years later JambhekarMaharaj requested Late Priest GovindChintamanPhatak to take care of temple and perform pooja and follow all the rituals in lieu of the Lord God Siddhivinayak.the temple is still looked on by the predecessor of the Priest Phatak. The JambhekarMaharaj used to reside in his math located on the shore of Dadar, Mumbai.
The temple was initially surrounded by lake at its eastern and western coast, built up by Nardulla in the 19th century. The lake was built to satisfy the scarcity of water faced at that time. But the lake is now filled up converted into a playground for kids and is an integral part of the KakasahebGadgil Marg.
The temple experienced a large mob of people from all over the country from the year 1952 onwards. And this increased and the conditions got worst the years later.Big cues of devotees hoping to get into the small. All praying hard to have an experience of their Lord Ganeshawas getting troublesome day by day. And this got even worst when the owner sold off the surrounding space and decreased the area of the temple
History of the Hanuman Mandir
The Hindu Dharma has a lot of idols. And every person has the right to pray the one they bestow. Like, Shree Samarth Ramdas was a follower of Shree Ram and hence use to worship him, and similarly SantEkanth worshipped Shree Dattatreya.
Lord Ganesh is worshiped by all and before any other.
The temple bestows the shrine of hanuman because long back during the construction of Sayani Road some workers inhumed his sculpture in the temple. This thing was soon brought in the site of the priest, who hearing this built in a small temple for Lord Hanuman as well in the temple. This all happened in the year 1952.
The renovation of the temple gave a divine look to both the Lord Ganesh as well as Lord hanuman temple. The Hanuman temple has its own independent timetable of poja and a special poja is carried out on every Thursday of the week.
The temple has a phenomenal architecture with gold plated roof and finely carved doors. The temple is carved with the eight forms of Lord Ganesha, commonly called as “AshtaVinayak”. The foremost and the main statue of the Lord is the one with his trunk pointing in the right direction wearing a garland of beads and the idol has four hand extension holding a Lotus, an axe, and a modak tray.
There is a small mandap in the middle of the temple where lord Ganesha (Siddhi Vinayak) resides. The idol I splaced in such a way that it seems as if the Lord is admiring the temples architecture
the inner of the scantum is the place where the Lord Ganesha’s main mainifestation is placed. It beholds four arms each holding one of the following : a lotus, an Axe, and a tray full of hid favorite sweets modakas. The main day for the idols worship is Tuesday, hence is followed by mob of people.
